UW-Parkside is a gem in the University of Wisconsin system. Situated between Milwaukee and Chicago in rural Kenosha County, UW-Parkside is headed by a dedicated, talented Chancellor, faculty and staff. Hyler Communications provided marketing direction via a 6-month on-site marketing project involving the Chancellor, department head, faculty, staff, student and alumni. Executive speech writing for the Chancellor helped advance the university’s mission in the community. Marketing materials developed for the Admissions department, featuring information on the university, majors, professors and students, are still in use today to recruit and retain students.
Hyler Communications was approached to upgrade website and collateral marketing material for the university’s department of Education. Materials were successfully used to recruit Special Education students to work in the Milwaukee Public School system. The department saw an increase in inquiries, prospective students attending informational sessions, and in overall enrollment.

Time Inc. was seeking a local angle to an Oak Creek, WI tragedy which received worldwide coverage: the Sikh Temple shooting by a gunman later determined to have ties to White supremacist groups. Using her journalism background, Lora Hyler was able to add the perspective of members of the Sikh community, as well as the community at large. Also, she garnered an exclusive interview with the single mother who, with her kids, unwittingly shared a duplex with the shooter. This ability to connect, empathize and pay great attention to detail to effectively tell a story is brought to every assignment.
