Creativity comes from many sources. Writer residencies serve as great inspiration.
In October 2015, I earned a two week writer residency at the Noepe Center for the Literary Arts on Martha’s Vineyard, Mass.
In October 2016, I was again honored to be selected for a two-week residency at Noepe Center for the Literary Arts. Our group of nine writers were amazingly diverse–coming together by way of South Africa, Alaska, London, New York, California, Maryland, and throughout the Midwest.

I was honored to join artists in France in May 2017 at the Camac Centre d’Art, Marnay Sur Seine. I put my 7 years of French to good use! I’m re-learning after many years.

“I am a writer, and I am going to write,” American playwright and author Loraine Hansberry once proclaimed. I took these words to heart.
I am working on parts one and two of the Stupendous Adventures of Mighty Marty Hayes, as well as a non-fiction adult career book featuring stories of those who overcame adversity to realize their dreams.
The Stupendous Adventures of Mighty Marty Hayes
Middle grade novel of an African-American child superhero.
Marty Hayes has a deep love affair with all things science, especially the new CRISPR-Cas9 technology, spy gadgets, and his burgeoning superhero powers. His granny used her powers to help Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and the Civil Rights movement, and has him promise not to use his powers frivolously. Further complicating his entry into 7th grade is his awakening knowledge of girls as he navigates middle school with his best friend, Christopher. Foreign goons threaten Marty and Christopher’s beloved International Spy Museum In Washington, D.C. They’re out to get the CRISPR-Cas9 data secrets hiding in plain sight at the museum. Marty, Christopher, Aisha and the school bully, Wade join forces to thwart data coveted the world over from getting into the wrong hands…and the wrong country.
